Geofencing - What’s it all About?

So, you’ve got a fleet of vehicles, this represents a considerable outlay of investment into your business, it’s what enables you to operate. But you want to operate as efficiently as possible, and with the price of fuel at the time of writing, that’s going to be a top priority. With your assets being driven around the country you’ll likely want to know where they are, if they’re running on time, improve those efficiencies and optimise on the routes that your drivers take so as to maximise on fuel usage, timeliness of deliveries and overall effectiveness of your business. Welcome to geofencing.

Geofencing

Geofencing enables all these things, and by its name and suggestion, it allows you to create boundaries around a physical location - an address, whatever it may be. It works by utilising GPS, radio-frequency identification (RFID), or cellular networks that allows you to establish parameters, hence the term ‘fence’. Mindful of the security of your fleet, should any of your vehicles venture outside of the ‘fence’ that you prescribe, you will be alerted. Now, we know that going off the beaten track may happen every now and again for any number of innocent reasons, but it gives you the ‘heads up’ that something ‘may’ be amiss. This can be done via a text, email or push notification, and allows you to take immediate action if needed. By studying routes taken, available and trialed, you’ll be able to optimise your delivery routes, and in so doing your fuel spend.

Geofencing

Customers love communication related to their order, geofencing allows you to monitor your fleet and inform them of the progress of their item - which allows them to better plan their day, for which they’ll be grateful...Building trust is a very worthy exercise, and this technology allows you to do this simply.
