The Last Steps of the Last Mile - Delivered

If you’ve read ‘Our Story’, you’ll have learnt that one of the co-founders got the inspiration to form the business from having been a courier themselves, doing the rounds for nearly two years. As a courier they became more than familiar with the frustrations of not being able to find the right address, with the sat-nav’s confident declaration that ‘you’ve arrived at your destination’ being akin to an electronic tease. Couple this with delivering in the rain, in the dark or just the sheer workload that you have - the job itself is simple enough, having tools that aren’t up to the task just doesn’t help…

In truth, sat-nav is not a sufficiently accurate enough tool for the delivery market - sure it will get you there, but will it take you to where you actually need to be, to the right address? Well, no!

And yet this is what it’s come down to - from all the stages and modes of transportation, be it rail, ship/aircraft, or road, that ultimately gets a product to its final destination - the customers front door - the Last Mile is the most crucial one of all and the one that is the most expensive and challenging. Indeed, according to ‘Insider Intelligence’, it’s the most expensive aspect of the whole delivery process, taking up 53% of the costings.

Incidentally, when Amazon originally launched Prime Two-Day in the US, they set the bar so high that other players found their profit margins squeezed. Many firms struggled to find the means to compete on a playing field where the bar set has been a Herculean challenge to meet, with many adapting to the change in the playing field, and becoming a part of it. No wonder that Amazons model is so attractive to suppliers and that their product infantry is so vast …it’s one where customer satisfaction is guaranteed.

This may seem a digression from the title of this piece, but it’s not - with the colossal investment that Amazon put into ensuring such rapid delivery (same day being achievable), it’s affected the established names in the business. With the success of Amazons radical business model implementation the customers expectations have skyrocketed - if Amazon can do it, anything less is second rate. In turn it could be said that this is a major factor in what has led to the solving of the ‘Last Mile’ being the most expensive stage of the delivery process - indeed honing this is practically the ‘Holy Grail’ for the sector.

Enter PostTag - the first tailor made App that directs the driver to the right front door. Their destination data engine processes over 3000 address validations every minute, cross referencing each one and leaving nothing to chance. As a result, it provides the precise longitude and latitude details for each one, thus ensuring that your drivers have the actual address to deliver each time - to the right front door.

Effectively, PostTag have done for Last Mile what Amazon have done for delivery times - raised expectations whilst ensuring that they’re deliverable. So, say goodbye to drivers returning to the depot with undeliverable parcels, scrutinising online maps and returning parcels to the client - not to mention the added tonnage of returned parcel consignments and the increase of fuel that this generates…

As for your customers, when they track their parcel and read “Out for delivery”, they will have the knowledge and certainty that it will be delivered!
