Hands up who likes working this job with wet feet? Thought not, but if you’re looking for a great pair of waterproof trail shoes that are reasonably priced, you’d be hard pressed to find a better pair of trail shoes than these, the Saucony Excursion. As it is, Saucony was the brand that our resident YouTube character ‘That Courier Guy’ bought for this very reason, and he got really quite excited when they came in, raving about their quality and comfort!
A trail shoe is built very purposely – to kick back anything that you have to face, gravel, water, uneven surfaces etc, and these shoes deliver. Constructed with Goretex, they’re going to keep you dry – so you can rest easy when the rain comes pouring down, these shoes will stand by you and keep the water out. What’s more, they have F1 technology in them… they have carbon fibre in the lug construction. That in itself is pretty cool, but it’s there to ensure that those all-important lugs stay in optimum shape, and with carbon fibre in them, that’s a given! After all, those chunky elements provide the crucial stability that we need when negotiating uneven ground, and often in the pouring rain at this time of year. And do they work! They really dig into the ground, making it ‘yours’ – these shoes make you ‘own it’, such is the confidence that they give you.
They’re light too, at around 9.5 ounces; these are a nice weight for a trail shoe. The mesh is made specifically for this shoe, interwoven to ensure that your foot sits securely in the shoe, which it does superbly. It’s used for the tongue too, and is super comfortable. The ankle support area is excellent – the rear at the back of the shoe has a high lip to give your ankle and heel the security it needs, snugly set, yet the low lip forward of it allows flexibility for sharp turns as you make those dashes round corners. Just brilliant.
